The name Randy Moss gets most sports people going, either positively or negatively (maybe not as much as say Terrell Owens), but nonetheless people certainly have their opinions. But I’m here to tell you, you are going to see a man on fire this year and probably many more to come. He’s more motivated than ever and has arguably the best organization in football around him to make sure he stays in line (which I honestly don’t think will be an issue anyway).
This is one motivated individual. Moss signed with the Oakland Raiders and was an absolute disaster for him. Coming from Minnesota as one of the greatest receivers to play the game and along side his friend and foe at the time Daunte Culpepper (who is ironically now at the Raiders camp), Moss really did nothing but give people reason to believe that his “elite” status was no longer. Statistically his worst years as a football player, while compounding with his mental and emotional lull, people (and defenders) basically gave him up for “washed up”.
BUT, the football gods shined on the country talking, ball hoggin stud once again in his storied career - seeming to give him an escape from Al Davis’ Raiders. Along comes Brett Favre, one of the truly all time greats (in any sport, much less the NFL), was bargaining, pleaing, begging, and praying that his beloved Green Bay brass would bring him someone to throw to and give Favre one last shot at being a winner. But Packers were dragging their feet and ultimately did not pull the trigger to bring in the high profile, high maintenance receiver. And all seemed to be lost yet again, then comes the shot he’s dreamed of - the New England Patriots, one of the winningest franchises this decade, poised to continue their dominance comes knocking.
Randy Moss becomes a Patriot. With ecstatic enthusiasm (along with many question marks) Moss comes to New England as a huge new target for Tom Brady and company. Then comes spring training and even MORE doubts on whether New England made the right decision in bringing this guy in with all his “baggage”, when he is basically out all spring training and all of pre-season.
Then comes opening weekend of the NFL. One of the biggest stories of the year is Randy Moss on the receiving end to Tom Brady’s passes. How would he do, how would he respond, how would he be accepted by the team, the fans, and his new home?
Well let’s just say this guy is for real and there is no stopping this year! He only averaged like 25 yards per catch, torched the NYJ for 180+ yards and a score, but even more amazing was that no one could contain this guy!
This is going to be fun watching him have fun again! Being the great and feared Randy Moss (again!).
